And whereas as part of the terms of such loan agreement
(by which appellation it is hereinafter referred to) the Chinese
Government will come under an obligation to the Corporation in
consideration of its services in issuing the loan and superin-
tending the construction of the Chinese part of the railway to
allow to the Corporation a rebate or commission on the nominal
amount of the loan and to issue to the Corporation certain net
profit certificates and to pay to the Corporation a commission on the
cost of all materials purchased for the same part of the railway
whether during or after construction.
1.--THE railway although consisting of two parts one from

Government (and is herein called “the Chinese section") and the other

called "the British section") is to be constructed maintained and worked
as a single continuous railway so that trains shall run and traffic shall
be carried continuously throughout the whole line without break
or change.
2.---EACH of the Governments is to provide the necessary land
for its own section of the Railway and to be responsible for the
